Sauherad is a giant in fruit production, and this is celebrated with a great apple festival every year." - Quote from Ove Mellingen, editor-in-chief of TA

Norsk Eplefest was established in 2006 to profile fruit production and art, as well as build pride and identity to one of the country's most important fruit districts. The market day Norsk Eplefest is organized in the center of Gvarv - also often referred to as the Fruit Capital.

Program and activities

On the last Saturday in September each year, the APPLE FESTIVAL AT GVARV is organized with a market day in the station area.

The day starts with OPEN CHURCH ON NES. Music and poetry at the altar table that has inspired the logo for Norsk Eplefest.

Then you can join the APPLE WALKING on fertile paths from Nes church, to Aslaksborg by Norsjø, through orchards up to Galleri Nyhuus, over Tinghaug, down Erik Werenskiolds veg to the center of Gvarv.

At the MARKET you will meet a varied selection of sales stalls with a focus on fruit and nature-based food, local food and handicrafts in the station area. In addition, we have brought with us VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATIONS that create life and activities in Gamlegata.

The students at Sagavoll Folkehøgskole make APPLE SPELLS for the children and they will present the APPLE BOARD that the students have made.

In collaboration with the Midt-Telemark cultural network and the Culture School, a CULTURAL PROGRAM is being set up where, among other things, school children from the entire Midt-Telemark municipality sing the Apple Song by Jon Solberg.

Norsk Eplefest also wants to include YOUNG ARTISTS and has challenged two of our local artists to present their "work" on the cultural scene.

An award will be made for the year's best market stand and we would also like to organize a specialist seminar on a relevant topic on the market day.

The program for this year's apple festival may vary slightly from year to year, but we hope to see you - the last Saturday in September!

Artist of the Year

Art and culture are important when celebrating the Norwegian Apple Festival. Many artists and cultural workers in various disciplines and genres leave their mark on the village, and since its inception in 2006, Norsk Eplefest has had a selected Eplefest artist with his own exhibition at Galleri Nyhuus

Award of Norway's best applejuice, cider and fruit wine

Our cool climate with long days throughout the growing season creates some of the best apples in the world. The applejuice made from these apples is therefore of very good quality, and Norwegian Apple Festival has therefore for several years taken the initiative to award Norway's best applejuice, cider and fruit wine. The selection takes place in Oslo once a year. Results from last year can be found on the websites of our partner HANEN
