Welcome to Tjønnås, a tranquil ecological farm nestled amidst breathtaking hillside views. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature's serenity. Listen to the gentle sounds of the countryside, where roosters crow, sheep bleat, and horses occasionally neigh. Relax in our traditional log house with a cozy porch overlooking the picturesque landscape.
Tjønnås is a working farm steeped in history, dating back to 600-700 AD. We embrace traditional methods, producing most of our goods at the farm. We utilize locally sourced berries and wild game, honor regional building customs, and strive to preserve the farm's rich heritage. While celebrating our past, we also utilize modern tools to maintain sustainable practices. Our trusty "Gråtass" tractor, a vintage model 1952, is a testament to our commitment to tradition and innovation.
Our farm is a haven for both humans and animals. Sheep graze freely on summer pastures, chickens roam the yard, and our horse enjoys the lush slopes. Whether staying with us or just visiting, you're welcome to indulge in delicious farm-fresh meals at our café, which is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner upon request. Our farm shop is also open to all, offering cured meats, sausages, lefse, freshly baked bread, honey, eggs, apple juice, yarn spun from the rare Grå Trønder sheep's wool, and luxurious sheepskins.
Our guesthouse provides four comfortable rooms with eight double beds, a shared bathroom, laundry facilities, and a private sauna.
While visiting us, you can explore the surrounding nature on our network of trails, including the romantic "Love Trail" or the more challenging "Black Trail" leading to Huldrehola. We have two electric bikes for rent; bike 7 kilometers to discover the nearby River Path, featuring informative plates of history, swimming spots, fishing opportunities, and the habitat of the protected river mussel.
Immerse yourself in the charm of the past with an afternoon tea served in our historic Uppstugo (upper house), dating back to 1750. Listen to captivating stories about the farm, including tales of a resident ghost! If you're feeling creative, a stand/easel is available.
If you'd like, you can engage with farm life by collecting eggs from our hens, foraging for wild berries, or, depending on the season, helping us plant or harvest potatoes. You may even have the chance to accompany the sheep and horse to their grazing pastures or bottle-feed our adorable lambs.
We warmly welcome all to experience the simple joys and rich traditions of Tjønnås, whether for a brief escape or an extended stay.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Svein Olav, Gunleik, and Torild
