Norway's best farm shop

The jury has unanimously chosen this year's winner in the competition for Norway's best farm shop.
The winner perfectly meets the competition's requirement that the farm shop be a good representative of Norwegian farm and local food and has already become a role model for many in the same industry after 5 years. The farm shop offers a wide selection of home-produced and local goods.

Cuts and hamburgers made from the farm's own cattle of ancient breeds and the neighboring farm's Angus are bestsellers, in the fall it is replenished with førikålkjøtt and pinnekjøtt and skin from its own sheep, cheese from local cheese dairies as well as accessories for both meat and cheese which create a desire to shop and important additional sales. In the same premises there is also an exhibition and sale of local arts and crafts as well as a well-visited café.

The nostalgic interior and pleasant atmosphere in the store appeal to many, just as the staff is praised for their knowledge, enthusiasm and friendliness.
The customers' nominations show that the owners' great commitment to a vibrant countryside and value creation for local farmers is seen as important. Several also highlight that the store plays a major role in the local community. It is not only a place of commerce, but also an important meeting place for the population.

The jury says that Gardsutsalget constantly shows the ability to develop further, including with accommodation in their own cabins as a new branch of the business. The fact that Gardsutsalget is in the final for the third year in a row, and that they are utilizing this in a professional way in their own marketing, is positive, the jury believes.

The family business impresses the jury with its conscious branding, and a well-executed concept and a content-rich website that makes the store appear very professional and inviting. They are simply unusually strong at storytelling and branding. Through their distinct visual profile, they make the farm sale a destination in itself, and so much more than just a store.

The couple Bente and Tore Hommeland took over the family farm and opened a farm outlet on the quay next to the farm in 2020. Here they continue the tradition of trading in the same premises where trade has been conducted for over 200 years.

This is the second time Dirdalstraen farm sale has won this prestigious title, most recently in 2023.
Honor and glory The jury was also impressed by the other two finalists, and would like to commend both Kjøkkenhagen Gårdsutsalg & Café at Frosta and Mannsverk Gård in Alta.
Both locations represent a high level within this type of business, and receive much praise through customer nominations.
