Oslo is getting its own drinking festival

During Matstreif at Youngstorget on September 18th and 19th, 25 producers of Norwegian beer, cider, wine, aquavit, fruit spirits, whiskey and non-alcoholic drinks will gather in one large tent – all with Norwegian drinks made from Norwegian ingredients. This will be Oslo's own drinks festival!

Bergen Food Festival has its cider festival and Trøndersk Food Festival has its brewery festival. Now
Oslo and Matstreif will also get their own drinking festival, says project manager in HANEN, Erling
Kristensen, who is responsible for the drinking festival.

Norway's best drink

On Friday and Saturday, September 18-19, Youngstorget will be filled with local food and Norwegian drinks. What is new this year is the Norwegian Drink Festival at Matstreif. There will be a large tent with 25 exhibitors of everything from non-alcoholic, soft drinks, beer, cider, wine, fruit wine, aquavit and other spirits. What they all have in common is that they make Norwegian drinks with Norwegian ingredients.

Here the public can come and taste Norway's best drinks in all categories, and talk
directly with the skilled producers, says Kristensen.

Festival feeling

To taste something, you must purchase tasting glasses and bongs at the entrance. A small drinks menu will also be printed out with an overview of all the exhibitors and what they have to offer. Here you can make your own notes and find new favorites throughout the weekend.

Opening hours for the drinks festival are 12-21 on Friday and 12-20 on Saturday.

This year too, there will be beer tasting, cider tasting and aquavit tasting for the public on the 2nd floor at Harlem Bar on Friday and Saturday.
New this year is a cocktail course with this year's bartender and wine tasting with Norwegian grape wine and fruit wine.

Tastings and events at Harlem Bar

The tastings are hosted by sommelier and pommelier Thor Oddvar Havn (cider and wine), master blender at Anora Morten Paulsen (spirits) and beer expert Jørn-Idar Kvig.
Here there will be a sensory review of the different styles, and three or four producers per event will be given
present themselves and their products to the audience on stage.

An overview of the tastings and times can be found here: https://matstreif.hoopla.no/
