Mannsverk Gård has been named Norway's Best Farm Shop 2026

Mannsverk farm in Alta has been named Norway's best farm shop 2026. The jury highlights a wide selection of self-produced and local goods, strong execution skills and a profitable operation built on raw materials from its own farm. Aarvik Gard and Hole gardsutsalg were this year's other finalists.

A total of 122 farm outlets and farm shops from all over the country participated in this year's competition. This is the sixth time the trade organization has HANEN is organizing the awards to raise awareness about Norwegian farm shops and farm sales. The finalists were voted on by the public throughout the summer, before an independent jury assessed the three candidates.

All three finalists impressed the jury with well-designed and well-visited store concepts at a high level. In the end, it was Mannsverk gård in Alta that came out on top.

A role model for Norwegian farm shops

The jury believes that Mannsverk farm meets the competition's requirements very well and is a strong representative of Norwegian farm and local food. After two years of operation, the farm shop has become a success and a role model for others in the industry.

The store offers a wide selection of home-produced and local goods. Cuts, hamburgers, cold cuts and sausages made from the farm's own meat are among the bestsellers. In the summer, the Arctic strawberries attract thousands of customers and guests, while the farm café serves cakes, pastries and lunch dishes from its own kitchen.

From family farm to popular travel destination

Mannsverk Farm is located in Tverrelvdalen outside Alta and has been in the family's ownership since 1870. The farm is currently run by the fifth generation.

In the customers' nominations, the high quality of the products is highlighted, along with the owners' hard work and commitment to the local community. Several also emphasize that the farm provides work for both young people and retirees. Mannsverk farm has thus become more than a farm shop - the place is also a popular destination for both locals and tourists in Alta.

The jury is impressed by how the owners have developed the traditional family farm from the 1800th century into a high-quality farm shop, with good profitability and robust operations. The profitability has been built up with raw materials from their own farm. The jury also highlights that Mannsverk farm is a finalist for the second year in a row.

The jury was also impressed by the other two finalists. Both Aarvik Gard in Baldersheim in Vestland and Hole gardsutsalg in Voll in Rogaland maintain a high standard and received a lot of praise in the customer nominations.

Sunniva and Jan Ove's commitment and determination. It is positive that they are starting from their own
farm and own production both in the form of further processing of products and experiences for visitors.

How Norway's best farm shop is chosen

The competition Norway's Best Farm Shop is organized by HANENThe goal is to create buzz about the country's farm sales and farm shops, encourage increased investment, and honor those who have succeeded in building high-quality and profitable outlets.

The farm shops are nominated and voted for by the public. The three with the most nominations advance to the final, where they are assessed by an independent jury with expertise in sales, tourism and agriculture.

This year's jury included travel journalist Cecilie Moestue, Konrad Kongshaug, 2nd deputy chairman of the Norwegian Farmers' Union, concept and brand developer Kari Hasselknippe, and Audun Pettersen, head of travel development at Innovation Norway.
