With us you can buy organic beef and mutton, organic summer and heather honey in addition to sheepskin and yarn. The products are processed and sold from the farm through our seal service, the REKO ring in Molde, local markets and upon request.
Sjurstua på Rød is an organic farm with meat production from the protected breed Vestlandsk Fjordfe, Tyrolean greyhounds and Gammalnorsk sheep. Both the cows and the sheep are fed exclusively with self-produced grass and graze all summer on open pastures in beautiful surroundings on Rødfjellet. In addition, we have over twenty beehives that contribute to pollination and ecological diversity.
All our animals are grass-fed and graze in the same areas, but at different times. Everyone contributes in their own way to improving the pastures for the other animals. We want as few intermediaries as possible in our production and believe that food should travel as short a distance as possible. The farm is organically approved through DEBIO and all our production is certified organic. All the animals are on open-field pasture in the summer and otherwise live in loose-farm barns. The bees are also on autumn pasture on Rødfjellet, where they collect heather honey.
We have a small self-service kiosk in front of the farmhouse where you can buy selected products. To make a larger purchase, please contact us and we will arrange a time that suits you!
A LITTLE MORE ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS:
SAUSAGE:
Our salsiccia represents in a way our "madness", idealism and passion for food and food production seen in a larger context. A fascination with the local butcher in Simone's hometown/village of Coazze has led us to build our own production facilities in order to (among other things) utilize all raw materials from our own production. In honor of Luciano (the butcher), the first salsiccia in history produced from our own mutton by us at Sjurstua has been named after Luciano. The salsiccia is guaranteed not to be free of visual defects (sausage stuffing is not something we have always done), but it is guaranteed to be free of unnecessary additives and the entire process is carried out by us. Under the guidance of Luciano, of course. And NOFIMA, then. Hope it tastes good!
HAMBURGERS:
Here we have chosen to make a completely clean and simple hamburger. With a little salt and that's it.
HONEY:
All honey carries the flavor of the flora in the area where it is collected. Ours is certified organic. Summer honey is a "cocktail" of flavor nuances as a result of varied flowering and good flying (collecting) weather for the bees throughout June. The honey is collected from various apiaries near the farm. We do all the work of churning, processing, bottling and labeling ourselves. In the period immediately after churning, we sell liquid (untouched) honey as fresh product. This will crystallize/solidify over time. This is a natural process and the honey can be heated (water bath with low heat) to become liquid again. Heather honey has the characteristic heather flavor, but it is also sweet and floral as a result of the bees between harvesting summer honey having drawn in more nectar from summer flowers before the heather migration started.
MUTS:
Our sheep and lambs are grass-fed and certified organic. Old Norwegian breed. They spend the summer on open pastures.
BEEF:
The meat is from a young bull/castrated from the Tyrolean Greyhound and/or Westland Fjordhound breeds. We chose to focus on animals of these breeds because they are well suited to organic production and are well adapted to open-field grazing, both in terms of body weight (not too big and heavy), agility and food preferences ("omnivorous"). The cows also graze in the open-field during the summer months.
LEATHER/YARN:
We sell skins and yarn from old Norwegian sheep.
