Gallery Nyhuus

The gallery was established in 2005. We use the old pig house and barn for exhibitions. These are unique and atmospheric premises, which allow art to function on its own terms. Our exhibitors are artists at a national and international level.

We have exhibitions in May, June, in the fall and at Christmas. More information about the exhibition program can be found at www.gallerinyhuus.no

More about Nyhuus

The history of the farm dates back to the Viking Age. It has been divided several times, most recently in 1855. Nyhuus has been a "girl's farm" for many generations, often passed down from mother to daughter. Agnes Holtskog Nyhuus, a fourth-generation fruit grower, and her husband Svein Inge Bertelsen, run the farm today with the good help of their parents, Kari and Halvor.

The climate is very good for growing fruit, with warm summers and lots of sun. The old grey pear trees date from around 1855. In 1920 the first apple orchard was planted. Today six trees remain in "Bestefarshågån". The other orchards are constantly being renewed.

Our apple ciders have won awards many times in the competition Norway's Best Apple Juice and Norway's Best Drink. Several of our ciders, plum jams and apple syrups have received the Spesialitet label for their unique taste and history.

We find it exciting to preserve the history of apples, and have planted a number of old apple varieties that are no longer commercially grown. Examples of these are Filippa, Laxton Superb, Ribston and Transparente Blanche.
