No honey tastes the same, but has different nuances in taste, color and consistency based on the nectar the bees collect from the flora around the apiaries each season. You can therefore experience variations from year to year in the same apiary, as well as differences between the different apiaries as a result of different flora. To maintain these differences, we harvest each apiary separately and make sure to keep it separate until the honey is bottled. Each apiary at Nordheim Gård thus produces a honey that is unique to its location – a flavorful expression of Frøya's varied coastal landscape.

The coastal goat is a unique Norwegian breed of goat that has adapted to the harsh coastal climate and distinctive coastal landscape. The breed is known for its hardiness and ability to exploit barren and steep pastures. The goats are good at navigating steep and rugged areas, and they tolerate both strong winds and rainfall well and can go outside all year round.

​Nordheim Gård is a small family-run farm located at Nordhammaren on Frøya. Here we engage in beekeeping and small-scale livestock production of the old Norwegian goat breed Kystgeit.

Fascination for pollinating insects and the desire to utilize the local flora on Frøya led us to establish the first of our apiaries in 2019. We are committed to ensuring that beekeeping is conducted on the bees' terms, and that the honey should be locally sourced and 100% natural.

Summer on Frøya rarely produces large quantities of honey. It is only when late summer sets in, and the heather moors are colored purple by millions of heather flowers, that the bees manage to fill up a small stock that we can harvest.

Nordheim Gård has established apiaries at various locations on Frøya. The local flora around each apiary is unique, which means that the honey from each apiary has a distinctive taste and color, and can vary from season to season. The honey from each apiary is therefore kept separate and is gently processed and bottled on the farm's own honey room.

Nordheim Gård has been involved in the conservation of the coastal goat since 2020, and was part of the founding of the Trøndelag Kystgeitlag in the same year. Through participation in breeding plans and bucking, Nordheim Gård, together with other herds in the Trøndelag Kystgeitlag, has worked actively to ensure the continuation of the breed in the region and management in line with national recommendations for the conservation of this livestock breed.
