In Tysnes south of Bergen, we run a farm, farm shop and restaurant and make cheese with a passion for good food and traditional knowledge from our home country, the Netherlands.
Myrdal farm is located 250 meters above sea level on the beautiful island of Tysnes, in Vestland county. It takes 10 minutes by car from the ferry pier in Våge.
We make different types of cheese with and without spices from purchased milk from Western Norway. This high-quality Norwegian raw material is the basis for fantastic cheese. In Gårdsbutikken we sell food from our own farm and as much local produce as possible.
Jasper and Nynke van Schaik took over the farm when they moved here from the Netherlands in 2013. They combine the famous Dutch cheese tradition with exquisite local ingredients. Myrdal Gård has a small cheese factory where various cheeses are produced from both cow and goat milk. Enthusiastic cheese lovers in the cheese factory ensures that the ingredients are of the highest quality and are processed under the strictest hygienic requirements. The cheeses are matured at the perfect temperature and humidity to bring out their full flavor potential. The various Myrdal cheeses have received several medals in the World Championships in recent years.
Myrdal cheese is sold in selected grocery stores and specialty stores throughout Norway.
The shop sells award-winning cheese, ice cream, yogurt, various baked goods, stone oven baked pizza with ingredients and medal cheese from the farm and much more local food. You can eat in the cozy barn restaurant next to the pizza oven, in the sunny garden room with a view of the Tysnes mountains, out on the terrace on the comfortable lounge sofa or at the picnic table in the middle of the hill. The atmosphere is informal and friendly with a focus on good atmosphere and good food.
From Myrdal Gård the Sherpa trail starts up to the highest mountain in Tysnes: Tysnes Såto 753m above sea level. It takes about 2 hours to the top and Myrdal Gårdsbutikk is a good start to the trip, an even better resting place after the trip, but also a good place to be and watch those taking the trip.
The farm shop opens during the Easter holidays and is open on weekends in May and June. During the Norwegian summer holidays it is open 5 days a week. More current information about opening hours can be found on the website or Facebook page.
The farm shop is open during the spring and summer season..
