High up in the Tverrelvdalen valley in Alta, just before the hill begins to climb upwards and slate quarries and cascading rapids characterize the landscape, lies Mannsverk Gård. It has been here since 1870 and it is now Ove Mannsverk, the 5th generation, who runs the farm, together with his wife Cecilie Mannsverk, father Tor Arne Mannsverk and mother Bodil Mannsverk.
In Tverrelvdalen, two things have been at the core of most families; slate and farming. Those who worked in the slate quarries often had a small farm next door, and that is how our farm came to be at one time as well. Tor Arne's parents, Tor and Anne Marie, were the first in the family to turn the small farm into a larger farm. Over the years, both dairy cows and pigs have roamed the barns. In addition, we have been a visiting farm, participated in "Inn på Tunet" and had handicraft production, largely thanks to a great commitment to the dissemination and further development of farming.
Today the farm is run by Cecilie and Ove Mannsverk, who took over with a desire to continue the traditions while developing the farm for new generations. With a focus on local food, animal welfare and genuine ingredients, we produce, among other things, long-aged beef from our own animals, as well as Arctic strawberries grown far north under the midnight sun.
On the farm you will also find a farm shop and café, where we offer our own products and a wide selection of local goods from other producers in Finnmark and Northern Norway. We want to create a warm and pleasant meeting place where people can experience the taste of Arctic agriculture - close to both the animals, the soil and the people behind the food.
Throughout the year we organize various activities and seasons on the farm, and we are passionate about showcasing the uniqueness of farming this far north. For us, the farm is not only about food production, but also about creating experiences, community and pride around local food and rural life.
