Tinghuset Gårdsbutikk og Bakeri is a very cozy and original shop and bakery. Here we offer meat products from our own wild sheep, fresh pastries and many other local foods, as well as interior and gift items - new and reusable. In the summer we have an outdoor cafe in the yard with a beautiful view of Sandsøysundet and the marina. The Tinghuset is in a restored building that was originally a sheriff's residence and courthouse in the 1750s.
The courthouse is beautifully located on Nordsand Gård. There is only a stone fence separating the farm from the almost 760-year-old church site on the island. Agriculture has been practiced on Nordsand for several thousand years. Archaeological excavations have found traces of "advanced" agriculture practiced as early as the Bronze Age, about 2000 years ago. Findings of traces of farm buildings show that there was also a large farm here in the Viking Age about 1000 years ago.
