The family-run hotel at Haugastøl, 1000 meters above sea level, offers modern apartments, breakfast and dinner service, coffee shop, bicycle shop, bicycle rental, as well as course and meeting rooms.
We are located in the high mountains with two national parks on our doorstep; - Hardangervidda and Hallingskarvet National Park and offer unique hiking terrain to our guests.
With the start of Rallarvegen right outside the door, Haugastøl is a natural choice for those who want an experience in fresh air and high mountain nature.
Haugastøl has in recent years been a base for the world's best snowkiters and has unique wind conditions and extensive experience with courses.
Accommodation Haugastøl offers modern apartments in several variations. All apartments contain a kitchen, tiled bathrooms with underfloor heating, free fiber internet and TV.
We put our soul into offering good homemade food and a high degree of personal service.
The Rallarvegen has been voted Norway's most beautiful cycle route several times. The road starts at Haugastøl and follows the Bergen Railway to Finse, Hallingskeid and Myrdal before continuing along the Flåm Railway to Flåm.
The road takes you through a fantastic high mountain area from 1000 meters above sea level up to 1340 meters above sea level and down to sea level.
The entire road is usually passable at the beginning of July and the season lasts until the end of September. For updated information about road conditions visit our website
We offer complete cycling packages including accommodation, food, bike rental and train tickets. For more information, see our "Cycling Packages" page.
Snowkiting Haugastøl is located between Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda National Park and is one of the world's best areas for snowkiting. The areas around the hotel offer stable wind conditions in endless terrain all winter.
In a normal season, the kite season starts at the end of October and lasts until the beginning of June.
Our biggest advantage is undoubtedly the endlessly large and varied areas of different spots to kite on. Hardangervidda National Park consists of 3422 km2 of snow-covered plains, while Hallingskarvet National Park has 450 km2 of terrain and the highest point is almost 2000 m above sea level. We have been kiting in Haugastøl since 1999 and we discover new kite spots every season!
The Hardangervidda National Tourist Route starts right outside the hotel and takes you through the heart of the national park. This gives us 38 km of road where you can stop anywhere (where there is parking) to kite. The ability to be flexible and mobile means that we rarely have days where there is no opportunity to kite. Haugastøl is located in the middle of the weather divide between east and west and benefits from two different weather systems.
On stormy days, the road over the Hardangervidda plateau may close due to heavy snow and wind. On these days, we offer snowmobile transportation for hotel guests to lower-lying spots, where there is usually less wind and better conditions.
