At Flatheim you can find peace. Here you can experience nature very close, the mountain, the river, the forest, the light and the sounds. Flatheim is a farm hotel located on the National Tourist Route Gaularfjellet, in the middle of the western Norwegian mountain and fjord landscape. Flatheim has been a stopping place for travelers since 1950. Here you can experience the real Norwegian. You can sleep in good beds, and wake up to the sound of the river and the crowing of roosters. From here you can hike on the Waterfall Trail along the protected Gaularvassdraget, or you can go on summit hikes, small peaks or large peaks. It is also nice to try your luck at fishing or maybe paddle on a mountain lake. Flatheim is a good starting point for excursions to the fjords, in less than an hour you can reach both Sognefjorden, Dalsfjorden and Førdefjorden. The coastal landscape is just a little further away.
We welcome groups by appointment for dining and storytelling, or for activities on the farm. Welcome to us!

Flatheim is located in Viksdalen, close to the National Tourist Route Gaularfjellet and the protected Gaularvassdraget, 430 meters above sea level. The small farm has a history dating back to 1949, when it was divided as a private farm. Heidi and Sigurd, who run Flatheim, are the 12th generation on the farm. In addition to the original guesthouse from 1949, we have expanded the farm over the past 10 years with several buildings in the yard. Most of the buildings are older houses that we have moved here, restored and furnished into comfortable and cozy rooms for guests. With us you can stay in apartments, family rooms or double rooms. The different units are located in several houses in the yard, surrounded by a cozy garden with berries, herbs and flowers, seating areas and garden sheds. One of the houses is a protected site, and the oldest part dates from 1570. In this building we have rooms for parties and meetings. There used to be a gas station here, but it is now closed. The old gas station “kiosk” is now a small shop with gifts, refreshments and local products.

We have a nice outdoor area by the river, with a gazebo, fire pits, and a pond, where you can grill, swim, and enjoy yourself in harmony with the surrounding nature. By the river, we also have an area with a gazebo, hot tub, and sauna that can be rented. The farm is an approved 4H farm, and can also offer children, young people, and adults activities and learning programs by appointment. We are also an approved Inn På Tunet farm. The farm naturally has animals, and you can meet both sheep, chickens, and cats with an address in Flatheim.

From around mid-June to mid-August, you can also choose to stay in a glamping tent on the riverbank at Flatheim. Comfortable, but even closer to nature.

Flatheim is located approximately in the middle of the county, and is perfect as a base for excursions to the Sognefjord, Dalsfjord, the coast or Jølster and Nordfjord. There are great hiking opportunities locally, both summit hikes and easier hiking trails. Nearby, along the Gaulavassdraget, is the Fossestien, a beautifully maintained trail that winds along the river, from the high mountains and down through the village, past waterfalls and lakes in ever-changing terrain. It is well-suited for fishing trips both in the river and in the lake, or paddling in a canoe or kayak.

Gaularfjellet is also a perfect destination if you are looking for nice motorcycle tours. Here you can experience cruising along the fjord, through lush villages, to the high mountains, and not least the nine hairpin bends and the View on the Mountain. A stretch without tunnels, in fact.

If you come here in the winter, you will come to a winter wonderland. We usually have snow, and the proximity to Gaularfjellet opens up a fantastic landscape for summit hikes and winter adventures. Spring ski trips here are also recommended.

In 2019, we were certified as a Norwegian Ecotourism company. We have a great desire to showcase and preserve local resources, both in terms of people, food, nature, culture and history. We are concerned about the environment, and it is of great value to us to be able to reuse both buildings, materials, furniture and textiles, - gladly let the old meet the new. We want to use nature, but use it gently. Our goal is to recycle waste to the greatest extent possible, have the least possible food waste, and allow emissions to both air and water to be as harmless as possible. These are important values ​​for us, which we hope many of our guests can also share with us.

If you take a trip to Flatheim, you will experience an area that is slightly off the beaten track, but which still offers great nature experiences, vibrant villages, peace and quiet. Welcome to us!
