When the glaciers retreated from Lier thousands of years ago, they left behind nutritious moraine soil and a landscape that has made Lier one of the most favorable areas for fruit, berries and vegetable growing in the country. Egge Gård was purchased as early as 1702 and the beautiful place is still in the family's ownership today. Today, new forces are driving apple and grape growing and production at Egge Gård, as the wine importer Gaia Gruppen became the owner in 2022.

Processing of apples

Egge Farm currently has 191 acres of cultivated land in Lier, all on the ridges surrounding the farm.

Mainly Aroma and Discovery are used, but also some Gravenstein and other apple varieties.

In addition to our own harvest, there is also a tradition of pressing apples from apple enthusiasts and apple farmers in the area. Apples are pressed, lightly pasteurized and bottled without the use of additives. Custom labels can be printed upon request.

Since the change in the law in Norway in 2005, where smaller producers were given the opportunity to produce alcoholic beverages, ciders made using the Champagne method, Iseple, apple brandy, aquavit, single malt and wine have been produced at Egge Gård.

Norway's oldest vines

In the summer of 2010, the first 1000 vines were planted at Egge Gård in Lier. Today, we have about 21,000 vines, which mainly go to "Egge Gård ONE", a sparkling wine produced using the champagne method, where secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle. The grape varieties used are mainly Solaris, but also Pinot Noir, Riesling and Sauvignon Gris.
