Bjaaland Village Restaurant

Eating at Bjaaland Bygderestaurant is about expanding your horizons and maybe tasting something new.
Experience food and drink that tells a story about us who run the restaurant, and about the diverse mountain landscape in which we live.

We serve 6-course menus based on local ingredients from Vest-Telemark and Telemark, where possible. Many of the ingredients we have grown or collected ourselves, in the mountains where we live by Liervatnet, at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level.
The menu changes with the season, available ingredients, mood and daily mood.

This is how it works;
You tell us if there is something you cannot eat,
– then the food comes to the table in several rounds as a tasting menu with several dishes.

We also offer a matching wine package to go with the food, – or beer from our own brewery, – or fantastic non-alcoholic drinks from local producers in Telemark.
But the shoulder height is still low, because we are a rural restaurant.

We are experiencing high demand, so it is necessary to book a table through our website.

Our small village restaurant was created after we bought the old Olav Bjaaland Museum in Morgedal, Telemark. Olav Olavsen Bjaaland was a Morgedaler, a South Pole explorer and a Skipioner, in other words an adventurous and versatile man.

We wanted the restaurant to maintain the connection to Olav and the adventurous spirit he represented, so it was easy to choose the name Bjaaland Bygderestaurant.

But who are we?

Hellene comes from Tasmania in Australia and Thomas comes from Morgedal.
Together we have lived, worked, eaten and drunk our way through large parts of the world for almost 20 years.

In 2016 we moved back home to Morgedal with 2 kids in tow, and live in the mountains 5 km behind the village.
Hellene is a chef and Thomas is good at splashing some wine.

Together we sometimes create something good.
The result is Bjaaland Country Restaurant.
