In the cultural village of Blaker, about 5 kilometers north of Oslo in the municipality of Lillestrøm, you will find BesteFarHuset. Here you can find one of Norway's coziest cafes over two floors. (See opening hours on the website). We also have a party room with space for up to 75 people, and a charming farm shop in the barn. In addition, there is a lot of activity with Inn på tunet, both for schoolchildren and people with dementia. The small farm is over 500 years old with the farm name Verkensbakken. There was a brickworks on the field here, and the cultural monument Slora Mølle, which was recently awarded the Olavsrosa, is right next door. There is a lot of history and culture in Blaker. At both Slora Mølle and Blaker Skanse, which is a beautiful fortress, tours can be arranged in combination with a visit to BesteFarHuset. On the farm there is a nice atmosphere where you can find peace and be served good homemade food.
Tone and Øyvind Høglien own and run the place. It was Tone's grandfather who lived here when she was growing up, hence the name BesteFarHuset. Tone's family ran a farm shop in the barn in the 90s, where they only had homemade things. In 2012, Tone started farm shops again. There was also a demand for catering, so they converted the barn into a function room. It is used to welcome groups, associations, companies, and for parties such as confirmations, weddings, anniversaries. In addition, from the fall of 2024 there will be a completely new and very special café. Opening hours are published in advance on the website.
The farm shop sells local food, their own honey, some homemade items and purchased items. Øyvind is a carpenter and takes on commissions with everything from furniture to Swiss ornaments, if he has time. As individuals, Tone and Øyvind are concerned with frugality, old traditions, and are very proud of their village. On the farm, they have renovated the main house from 1877, and came in 2nd place in the "Norwegian most beautiful home" award in 2010. There is a lot of soul and love in old things. Repairing and taking care of things instead of throwing them away is something they are passionate about. It gives a good feeling in many ways. In 2017, they had a large film crew on the farm where Tine Meieri's major venture "Fjøsnissen" was filmed on the farm with Gard Eidsvoll as an actor and Aksel Hennie as director. So in a way, "Fjøsnissen" is a bit from BesteFarHuset.
Welcome to the cultural village of Blaker and BesteFarHuset, and get some "Refill of Joy".
