Welcome to Bakkevig Gard, located in the village of Nedstrand in North Rogaland. We breed Old Norwegian sheep, grow grass, grow strawberries, grow some potatoes/vegetables and rent out cabins.

Bakkevig Gard is idyllically located at the entrance to the eastern side of Hervikfjorden in Tysvær municipality in North Rogaland. Here, through all generations, people have used the resources on the farm through both agriculture and fishing, and in recent times, cabin rentals have been an important part of the business.

The cabins are perfect for families with children and couples. They are beautifully situated and facing south, with a view of the fjord. There are great conditions for trips on the sea (boat and sit-on-top kayak rental) and land in the immediate vicinity.

For more information and bookings, please contact us by phone at 410 30 952 or email kbakkevig@hotmail.com. In the summer we primarily want to rent for whole weeks, but please contact us if you have other requests.

The district here also offers many cool activities for both young and old, such as "High and Low Nedstrand climbing park", Tysværtunet swimming pool in Aksdal and Vikinggården on Karmøy.

There are approximately 120 adult sheep of the Old Norwegian breed on the farm. We sell fresh/frozen lamb and have the meat processed into lamb shanks and pork knuckles at Vikedal Gardsmat. This can be purchased directly from the farm or through the Reko-ringen in Haugalandet. We also take back our own skins from the lambs, which are popular as gifts for yourself or others. The sheep graze by the sea, inland and outlying areas, and varied feed in the form of herbs, grass, heather, juniper and leaves produces delicious meat with a hint of gamey flavour.

Up by the farm road we have a self-service kiosk, where you can buy strawberries and potatoes in season.

It is an old farm that has been in the family since the mid-1700th century. Until about 1660, the farm was under the Utstein monastery on Mosterøy, but all the ancient monuments on the farm show that there must have been farmers here before the Black Death. The farmyard is surrounded by several old houses. The main house is about 150 years old. The woodshed has a roof of wild slate, taken from a "hedlebrot" that is on the farm. This was restored in 2017. The firehouse is in stone, built by so-called "austmenn", who came from the east side of Langfjella to the fjord villages to work.
