The salt is made from pure Arctic seawater taken from the world's strongest tidal current, and brings the taste of the northern Norwegian coast to the table.

Arctic Salt is Norway's only salt producer and the world's northernmost salt factory. Here, handmade sea salt is produced in Saltstraumen from pure Arctic seawater. The salt is harvested by the world's strongest tidal current and has been awarded the Nyt Norge label.

At Saltbrygga you can buy our handmade sea salt, as well as a selection of other local quality products. The products are also available in our online store at www.arcticsalt.no.

We offer guided tours for small groups, where you get an insight into salt production through a visit to the salt factory, before the tour continues to the Knowledge Loft with stories about Saltstraumen, coastal culture and life below the sea surface.

We serve freshly ground coffee from the local coffee roaster Bønner i Byen, and you can also buy coffee bags from the store. During the summer holidays, we also offer our popular, freshly baked apple cake – perfect to enjoy with a good cup of coffee and the view of Saltstraumen.

The story of Arctic Salt

The idea for Arctic Salt was born in 2012, with a desire to create a unique gourmet sea salt based on the seawater from Saltstraumen – the world's strongest tidal current.

After extensive testing, countless trials and a few burnt pots, the right production method was developed. The result was a pure sea salt with a fresh taste of the sea and northern Norwegian nature.

Arctic Salt started as a sole proprietorship in 2013. In 2015, the Saltbrygga in Saltstraumen was purchased and converted into a salt factory. The same year, the first batches were produced, and Arctic Salt was ready for the market.

Since then, Arctic Salt has developed into a well-known brand with customers all over Norway. The sea salt has become a popular souvenir for visitors to Saltstraumen, Bodø and Northern Norway, and has also found its way to customers far beyond the country's borders.

Over the years, we have developed several exciting salt varieties. Among the most popular is our birch-smoked sea salt, which is smoked in our own smokehouse at the end of the quay at Saltbrygga.

Arctic Salt is a craft company where the entire production process is carried out manually. From evaporating seawater and harvesting salt to drying, packaging and labeling – everything is done with great care for quality and tradition.

Today, Arctic Salt is the world's northernmost salt factory and the only salt factory in Norway.
