The farm has produced both fruit and meat throughout history, but today the main focus is on the production of Edel apple juice and Edel Cider. The farm Åkre is located on the west side of Sørfjorden in Ullensvang Herad in Hardanger and benefits from the mild and fine Westland climate here. The farm is optimally located to produce the best apples for a sour, fresh and balanced apple juice and cider. The farm is currently run by Arita & Gjermund Åkre, and with good help from the senior generation - Marit & Olav. Quality, taste experience, short journey, organic, natural and elegant are some of the keywords when our products are made, and we hope and believe that it is still felt in the taste. The products are available at the wine monopoly and scanlog (for horeca).
When the apples are ready for pick-up in the fall, the production equipment at Åkre is prepared for an intensive and exciting time. The apples come from our own production or from good neighbors in the district. The apples are carefully received, sorted and washed before they are ready to be transformed from apples into sweet and fresh apple cider. The apple cider is produced in pure apple varieties to preserve the distinctiveness of the different varieties – Aroma, Discovery, Gravenstein, Idun, Karen Schneider, etc. The apple cider is pasteurized before being bottled. There are no additives here, just pure and fresh apple cider. The apples that are chosen as raw materials for the apple cider are bottled in fermentation vats as soon as they have been transformed into apple cider. There, the must will remain for several months under good control so that the apple cider slowly but surely changes into an aromatic, fresh, dry and sparkling apple cider.
