D/S Bjoren is one of a few wood-burning passenger steamboatin the country. The steamer was built i 1867, and is a floating, cultural monument. Bjoren was in regular service be- tween 1867 and 1957, and now sails on the lake of Byglandsfjorden in June, July and Au- gust. Normally two and a half hour trips. The steamer may be chartered for groups up to 55 persons, and is licensed for beer and wine.

A boat trip on Byglandsfjorden is a wonderfull nature experience. In 1867 the boat was 52 feet in length, and had an engine of 8 HP. In 1897 Bjoren was extended by 6 feet, and an- other 10 feet in 1914. The boat also received a new steam-boiler, and a powerfull engine, producing 42 HP. At this stage of rebuilding the boat took it’s present shape, measuring 68,9 feet in length and weighing 26,9 tons.In the 1970’s a rescue operation was started to save what was left of the boat.
